SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Biola's track team sent a portion of its squad for its first full outdoor meet of the season, competing in the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational on Saturday. The results were a number of personal bests along with some good early March performances.
Leading the way for the Eagles was junior Ryan Hansen and sophomore
Gabe Aeschliman. Hansen hit his PR in the javelin on his first throw, his mark of 54.63 meters is just 1.5 meters from national qualifying. Aeschliman PR'd and finished first in the 200 with his 22.52 time and ran a good early season 400-meter mark of 50.01 where he finished third. Thrower
Naomi Sornos had a good day competing in throwing events as won the discus with a 35.23 meter throw, finished third in the shot with a 10.41 put.
Also placing for the Eagles were juniors
Connie Andersen and
Kesslyn Martin who finished third and fourth in the javelin throwing 28.55 and 28.43 meters, respectively, while long jumpers
Ryan Foster and
Jameson Henry both set personal records as they also placed third and fourth with jumps of 5.77 and 5.72 meters.
The Biola men's 4 x 100 relay finished third as the quartet of
Matthew Bacchus,
Jameson Henry, CJ Hunter, and
Alex Calkins combined for a time of 45.12. The women's 4 x 100 relay of Alexandra Zalesky,
Zoe Zappas,
Makenzie Gage, and
Connie Andersen finished fourth in 52.93.
Biola will be traveling with a majority of it's squad on Friday, March 19th to the University of Redlands for a meet that has the field events starting at 3:30 pm and the track events beginning at 5:00 pm. On Saturday, March 20th a smaller portion of the team will be competing in track events only at the UC Irvine's Spring Break Classic. Starting time for the track events is 3:00 pm.
