LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It took nearly a week to complete, but Biola's men's tennis team finally played its first match of the season, falling 7-2 to cross-town rival Whittier College on Wednesday.
The match, which was originally scheduled for early last week but postponed by rain, got underway on Tuesday afternoon. However, after doubles play, heavy rain postponed the rest of the match until Wednesday.
Biola trailed the Poets 2-1 after completion of the doubles competition, but was able to score just one victory in singles. Freshman
David Mossman was the lone victor, defeating Sean Robertson 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. The Eagles' doubles win came at the top as
Weston Leopold and Ben Worthington outlasted Robertson and Justin Delong 8-7 (6-3) to pick up the win at No. 1 doubles.
Biola returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 11), traveling to Riverside to take on La Sierra University in a non-conference match beginning at 2:00 p.m.
