Biola Rolls Past Calgary 80-50 for Sixth-Straight Win

Josh Miller

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Josh Miller scored 16 points and Biola held its sixth-straight opponent to 50 points or fewer as Biola picked up an 80-50 win over the University of Calgary in a non-conference game at Chase Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Eagles, ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA National Rankings, pick up their sixth-straight win to improve to 13-1 on the season. The Dinos fall to 7-10, having lost all three games on their Southern California road trip.

Miller had 16 points and was one of three Biola players to reach double-figures with Curtis Eatmon adding 12 and Shane Mahoney coming off the bench to score 11.

The Eagles raced out to a quick 21-7 lead over the first 7:30 of the game, and never looked back, taking a 40-20 lead to the half. In the second half, the Dinos briefly cut the lead to 14 on a pair of occasions, but Biola repsonded by going on a 9-1 run over the next three minutes to quash any comeback thoughts.

Calgary was unable to get more than 50 points of the stingy Biola defense, which held the Dinos to 27 percent shooting in the game. Biola has held six-straight opponents to 50 or fewer points, allowing over 50 points in just three games this season. Biola leads the NAIA in scoring defense, holding teams to a 51.0 ppg average.

Andrew McGuinness scored 14 points to lead Calgary while Tyler Fidler, who had scored over 20 points against Azusa Pacific and Concordia earlier this week, was held to just 11.

Biola opens the new year by returning to GSAC play, traveling to face The Master's College on Tuesday, January 4 at 7:30 p.m.
