LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior forward
Josh Miller scored 20 points and added eight rebounds to lead Biola to an 84-46 victory over Bethany University in a non-conference game on Monday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles earn their second-straight victory and improve to 9-1 on the season. The Bruins suffer their 10th-straight loss to open the season.
Miller was one of four players in double-figures as all 11 Biola players scored at least three points in the contest. Seniors
Curtis Eatmon and
Nate Rakestraw each added 10 points while junior
Josh Pixler came off the bench to tally 10 points as well.
Biola shot 52 percent in the game while holding the Bruins to just 29 percent.
The Eagles roared out to a quick 14-4 lead just six minutes into the contest. After the teams went back and forth for the next six minutes, Biola then turned up the pressure, holding Bethany to just three points over the final 8:30 of the half. The Eagles would use that final 24-3 run to go to the half leading 51-18.
In the second half, Biola would stretch the lead to as many as 42 at 72-30 before emptying the bench, which wound up performing quite well including Pixler had a career-high 10 points including a three-pointer from NBA range, adding four rebounds on 4-of-5 shooting.
Kenny Thompson scored 16 points to lead Bethany, while Travis Derochowski scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds for the Bruins.
The victory was win number 797 for Head Coach Dave Holmquist, who needs just three victories to become the fourth NAIA coach and 16th coach overall to reach the 800-win milestone.
Biola plays its final game before Christmas on Saturday, hosting Pacific Union College in a non-conference tilt at Chase Gymnasium, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
