FRESNO, Calif. --- Biola's men's and women's swim teams closed out the 2010 portion of its schedule with a strong showing in a double dual meet at Fresno Pacific, losing to FPU with the women knocking off NCAA Division II Cal State East Bay.
The final scores of the meet saw the men falling 109-67 to the top-ranked Fresno Pacific Sunbirds while the women narrowly were defeated 148.5-122.5 to the Sunbirds. The women's team did pull out a 182-86 victory over Cal State East Bay.
Biola picked up a couple of individual wins in the competition, including a pair of wins by senior
April Smith in as many events. Smith took first place overall in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.23, then won the 400 individual medley in 4:43.57.
The Eagles did well in the diving competitions as well with
Derek Gutierrez and
Austyn Lewis winning on the three-meter and one-meter board, respectively.
Vanessa Joeckel won the three-meter and placed second on the one-meter.
Biola opens the 2011 part of its schedule on Saturday, January 8, traveling to Riverside to face California Baptist University in a dual meet.
