Biola Opens Season With Solid Showing at PCSC Meet


RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola opened its 2010-11 season with a solid performance on Friday and Saturday at the PCSC Relays and Pentathlon hosted by California Baptist University.

On Friday, Biola picked up a number of early qualifiers to the NAIA Championships. Senior April Smith, who won the program's first individual NAIA title last year, punched her ticket to the 2011 championships with qualifying times in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Junior Brittany Rosania earned a qualifying time in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.73.

The Eagles also qualified four relay teams, the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay (Emily Mosbacher, Monica Hurt, Rachael Sirjord, Brittney Rosania), Women's 400 Freestyle Relay (April Smith, Rachael Sirjord, Monica Hurt, Emily Mosbacher), Women's 800 Freestyle Relay (April Smith, Katie McLeland, Bailey Johnson, Amber Kiel), and Women's 400 Medley Relay (Amber Kiel, April Smith, Brittney Rosania, Emily Mosbacher).

On Saturday, Biola returned for the pentathlon portion of the weekend with each swimmer taking part of in five events in their stroke. Smith earned a qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke, knocked nearly a second off her time in the 100 free from the day before and qualified in teh 200 IM. Senior Emily Mosbacher picked up a cut time in the 100 freestyle as did Chris Stutzmen from the men's team.

Biola returns to the pool on October 23, swimming at the Malibu Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University.
