Dwight Gordon poured in 18 points and
Josh Miller added 14 to lead Biola to a 78-47 non-conference victory over the University of Redlands at Chase Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season while handing the Bulldogs a loss in their season opener.
Gordon, who matched his season average with 18 points, was 7-of-13 from the field, adding four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Miller had the hot hand from long range, hitting 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and 5-of-10 overall. He also had eight rebounds and three assists.
Biola wasted little time jumping all over Redlands, jumping out to a 6-0 lead over the first two minutes and going up 17-5 on a dunk by
David Cline at the 12:30 mark. The Eagles would expand the lead to as many as 22 in the first half before settling on a 40-20 lead at intermission.
Gordon had 12 of his 18 points at the break as Biola shot a respectable 42.5 percent in the opening stanza while holding the Bulldogs to just 9-of-27 from the field.
In the second half, Biola maintained a lead of around 20 through much of the period, using a barrage of three-pointers to stretch the advantage to 35 with five minutes left and cruised from there.
The Eagles had a big 44-26 edge on points in the paint and out-rebounded the Bulldogs 49-39. Biola also forced 21 turnovers and recorded 16 steals with
Clay Martin recording five steals and
Nate Rakestraw adding four.
Biola returns to the court on Saturday, continuing its swing through the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a trip to Pomona to face Pomona-Ptizer College at 7:30 p.m.
