Biola Cruises Past Chapman

Nicolette Mather had six kills in nine swings for the Eagles

ORANGE, Calif. --- Christine Douglas had 19 kills and 11 digs while Tavea Hampton added 11 killss and three blocks to lead Biola to a 25-22, 25-13, 25-8 sweep over Chapman University in a non-conference match on Friday night.

The Eagles picked up their sixth-straight victory and 12th win in their last 14 matches, improving to 15-4 overall. The Panthers fall to 7-9 overall.

Biola had a bit of a struggle out of the gate in the opening set, a theme that has been repeated numerous times this season. The Eagles opened up quick, jumping out to a quick 9-4 advantage. But Chapman hung around taking advantage of a number of Biola errors to eventually cut the lead to two at 22-20. But the Eagles managed to survive by exchanging points and ended the set with a kill by Douglas.

In the second, Biola started to dominate. Leading 8-6, the Eagles went on a long 15-4 run to take control and cruise to an easy win. Things stayed about the same in the third set with Biola opening up an 8-2 lead and never looking back. Freshman Nicolette Douglas closed out the match by serving four-straight points including an ace with Kim Russell ending the set with a big kill.

Douglas and Hampton led the balanced attack for the Eagles with Nicolette Mather adding six kills in nine swings with no errors. Russell contributed five while Rachel Buckley and Amy Mosebar each had four.

Biola closes out the first half of GSAC play next week, traveling to face San Diego Christian College on Tuesday (Oct. 5) and hosting Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday (Oct. 9). Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m.
