BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Freshman Natalie Oliver netted her first collegiate goal and it proved to be the match-winner as Biola defeated San Diego Christian College 2-0 on Saturday night in the GSAC opener for both teams.

The Eagles win their fourth-straight game and remain undefeated on the season at 4-0-1 and are now 1-0-0 in GSAC play. The Hawks drop to 2-4-1 and to 0-1-0 in conference.

Oliver's goal came early in the match as she tallied the first goal in the 17th minute. Junior forward Sam David crossed a shot into the box which hit some traffic and bounced right to the feet of Oliver. The freshman wasted no time, turning and firing the ball into the back of the net.

Despite numerous opportunities, the Eagles were unable to score again before the half and held a 1-0 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Biola kept up the pressure and added an insurance goal five minutes in. Junior defender Gillian McPherson sent a free kick from near the midfield stripe right into the box where Ashley Moseley headed it into the lower right corner of the goal. It was Moseley's fourth goal of the season, tying her for the team lead with David.

Biola's back line continued it's strong play, helping sophomore goalkeeper Erin Frushon record her fourth-straight shutout. She faced just three shots and had to make one save, but it was a spectacular one. In the 61st minute, San Diego Christian mounted a bit of pressure and Sarah Le snuck past the Biola defense and had a point-blank shot on goal. However, Frushon quickly came off her line and made a great diving stop to keep the shutout intact.

The Eagles held a decisive 13-3 edge in the game, which seemed a bit sluggish due to 45 combined fouls between the two teams.

Biola's 4-0-1 start matches the best start to a season since 2004 when the Eagles tied their first match, then won the next 15 straight en route to a GSAC Championship and berth in the NAIA Quarterfinals.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 29), traveling to Riverside for a match-up against No. 1 California Baptist University in a GSAC match. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
