BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior forward Sam David scored a pair of goals to lead Biola to a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Soka University in a non-conference match on Friday night.

The Eagles improve to 3-0-1 on the season and record their third-straight shutout--the longest stretch since the 2005 season. The Lions fall to 2-2-0 on the year.

Biola dominated the match from start to finish, outscoring Soka 33-1. The Eagles got on the board in the sixth minute as David intercepted a goal kick and found Ashley Moseley for an easy goal just in front of the net.

Biola added another goal in the 25th minute as David collected her first of the night. After a corner kick ricocheted off a pair of defenders, David collected the ball in the middle of the box and fired a quick shot into the goal.

David struck again just four minutes later. Becky Mossman headed a shot off a corner kick which was blocked right to David's feet. Once again she finished from point blank range to stretch the lead to three.

Just over one minute before the half, junior forward Zoe Zappas scored on a great individual effort, taking the ball down the far side, cutting back in just in front of the goal line and firing a shot from a nearly impossible angle. Somehow the ball bent into the net past a surprised keeper to give the Eagles a 4-0 halftime lead.

Biola closed out the scoring in the 63rd minute as freshman Brittany Barr finished from close range off a nice pass from Megan Gularte.

The offensive outburst matched the Eagles' five goals scored in their last match which was also a 5-0 win over Holy Names last week. Biola has now scored 14 goals on the season through four matches, equalling its total from the entire 2008 season. It's the most over a four-game stretch since 2003.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Frushon continued her shutout streak, recording a save in the closing seconds to extend her scoreless streak to 298 minutes.

Biola returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, opening GSAC play by hosting San Diego Christian at 7:00 p.m.
