BOX SCORE

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. --- Junior Kennedy Chongo scored two goals and added an assist to lead Biola to a 4-0 win over UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon in Santa Cruz.

The Eagles improve to 2-0-0 on the season with the victory and have now tallied nine goals in their first two games.

It took Biola a while to get going despite coming close on a number of early opportunities. The Eagles finally got on the board in the 42nd minute as Chongo sent a nice pass onto the foot of Humberto Toscan, who sent the ball past the sprawling keeper with a gentle touch. The ball barely rolled over the goal line and settled halfway between the line and the back of the net.

After the half, Biola quickly scored its second goal of the match in the 50th minute on a great individual effort by Chongo. Sophomore Marco Ruvalcaba found Chongo alone with a great through ball and the junior used a couple of quick moves to beat the keeper and send it into the back of the net.

Just over five mintues later, Chongo again scored for the Eagles, firing a shot from about 20 yards out and curling it just in the top corner of the net.

Biola put the finishing touches on the contest with a goal in the 83rd minute as Benny Hernandez found Derek Friehe with a through ball which he tapped past the out-of-position keeper to make it 4-0.

Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Fenlason recorded his second-straight cleansheet, facing 10 shots and making a pair of saves.

The Eagles return to action on Friday (Sept. 5), opening the home portion of their schedule against Trinity International University (Ill.). Chongo will be especially looking forward to the match as he will face the school he transferred from after his freshman season. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Al Barbour Field.
