BOX SCORE

FRESNO, Calif. --- Fresno Pacific used two five-run innings to cruise into a 12-5 victory over Biola in a GSAC game on Thursday in Fresno.

The Sunbirds (30-15, 22-11 GSAC) accumulated 18 hits against the Eagles (30-20, 20-13 GSAC) with every Fresno Pacific starter tallying at least one.

The five run third was ignited by back-to-back home runs by Anthony Lowell and Dwight Nixon to start the inning. A walk to Case Rigby and Jacob Burns' single followed before Josh Jackson belted a three run homer to cap the scoring in the inning.

Fresno Pacific doubled the lead in the fifth, as Burns and Jackson singled to start the inning before Joey Norwood was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Alex Mehrten was hit by another pitch to force home a run. Andrew Douglas singled home a run. Norwood then scored on a wild pitch, before Nixon's sacrifice fly brought home another run. Rigby then completed the second five run inning for the Sunbirds with an RBI single.

That chased Biola starter Calen Pennington who was eventually hung with the loss to drop  to 2-4 on the year after lasting five complete innings.

Biola got on the board in the sixth as Chris Foreman singled to lead off the inning. One batter later Brent Chavez launched a two run homer to center field.

FPU got one of those back in the bottom of the inning as Norwood doubled and then scored on a Mehrten single.

The Eagles started the eighth with a Nick Rotkowitz home run for their third of the game. Billy Vopinek singled one batter later and moved to second on a ground out. Taylor Loop delivered the RBI single to make the score 11-4.

Fresno would add another in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double by Douglas.

The Eagles' comeback fell short in the ninth as Chad Pace doubled and scored on a Josh Burkett single for Biola's only run in the inning.

Fresno Pacific starter Kelyn Shellenberg allowed two runs on five hits through seven innings to earn the victory.

Biola wraps up their home schedule on Saturday against archrival Azusa Pacific beginning at Noon with the Eagles still within reach of the second place. The Eagles will then complete the season with a final trip to Fresno against the Sunbirds on Tuesday.
