WHITTIER, Calif. --- Biola's
Tyler Jung and
Weston Leopold pulled out a victory at No. 1 Doubles to open the match, but the Eagles could not pull out a number of other close matches, falling 8-1 to Whittier College in the season opener for Biola.
The Eagles drop to 0-1 on the season with the loss.
Jung and Leopold played well to start the match and pulled out a hard-fought 8-6 victory. The other two doubles matches were also close. At No. 2,
Colin Snow and
Dan Westman were edged out by a 9-7 score and at No. 3 doubles,
Nicholas Lazar and
Ryan Adams suffered a tough 8-6 defeat.
Riding a slight advantage after the doubles portion, the Poets cruised to the dual victory by sweeping the singles events. Snow gave Whittier's No. 1 player Sean Robertson a tough go of things in the first match. After dropping the first set 7-5, Snow rallied back and won the second 6-3 to force a tiebreaker. However, Robertson prevailed in the extra set, winning 10-7.
The Eagles return to the courts on Saturday (Feb. 14), opening GSAC play at Concordia University. First serve is slated for 11:00 a.m.
