Nate Rakestraw scored 13 points and
Marlon King added 11 points as Biola used a big second half to defeat California Maritime Academy 60-43 in a non-conference game on Saturday night in Vallejo.
The Eagles, ranked No. 17 in the NAIA Preseason Poll, improve to 4-0 with the victory while the Keelhaulers drop to 1-6.
Biola trailed by 27-26 despite outshooting Cal Maritime 50-44 percent as turnovers plagued the Eagles. However, in the second, Biola clamped down on defense, holding the Keelhaulers to just four total field goals and 3.8 percent shooting, outscoring them 34-16 to cruise to the win.
Rakestraw had 13 points including 2-for-2 shooting from beyond the arc, adding three assists and three steals for the Eagles. King had a game-high eight assists to go along with his 11 points and added eight rebounds.
Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 1), opening GSAC play with a huge battle against Fresno Pacific University, which was ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll, and is also off to a perfect start at 5-0.
