Late Goal Lifts Biola Over Fresno Pacific, 2-1

David records match-winner with just under five minutes left

BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola forward Sam David scored on a one-on-one breakaway in the 86th minute to lift the Eagles to a 2-1 GSAC victory over Fresno Pacific on Tuesday afternoon on Al Barbour Field.

Biola's victory snaps a four-match losing streak as the Eagles improve to 6-5-1 on the season and to 2-5-0 in conference play. The Sunbirds drop to 9-4-0 overall and to 4-3-0 in the GSAC.

David's match-winner came late in a contest which looked like it was destined for overtime. David received a great pass from senior Ashley Moseley which lead to the breakaway. David worked one-on-one against the Fresno Pacific goalkeeper Catherine Michaelis, finally beating her with a great move to score the decisive goal.

The tandem teamed up on Biola's first goal, a tally which came early in the match. David lofted a long pass from the corner, right to the feet of Moseley who one-touched it to the far post out of the reach of the diving netminder. The goal came in just the eighth minute and the Eagles clung to that lead for a while.

Biola managed to outshoot the Sunbirds 6-3 in the first half and had the better of play through the first 45 minutes. In the second half, Fresno Pacific came out with a bit of urgency.

The Sunbirds finally broke through with a goal in the 61st minute as Jessica Pereschica netted her eighth goal of the season by taking advantage of a Biola miscue. As the defender passed a ball back under pressure, it caught goalkeeper Erin Frushon off guard and she slipped while going for it. Pereschica took advantage, collecting the loose ball outside of the box and guiding it home to tie the score.

After fighting off a pair of scoring chances by the Sunbirds, the Eagles were able to counter with just five minutes to go resulting in David's winning tally.

Frushon finished the match with a save while facing seven shots, allowing just the one goal. Frushon has not allowed more than one goal in five of her last six starts, though the Eagles are just 2-4-0 over that stretch.

Biola returns to the pitch on Saturday (Oct. 24), heading south to face off against Point Loma Nazarene University in a GSAC battle beginning at Noon.
