LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior guard Danny Campbell scored 16 points and sophomore forward Andrew Schroeder added 15 to lead Biola to a 67-47 non-conference win over the University of Redlands on Saturday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles improve to 10-3 on the heels of their third-straight win and drop the Bulldogs to 4-7 on the season.
For the second-straight game, Biola got the early advantage on it's opponent, quickly jumping out to an 18-5 lead over the first seven minutes of the game. The Bulldogs answered back over the next three minutes with a 10-2 run to pull within five, but the Eagles snapped the string with a Campbell three-pointer which led to a 15-4 Biola run to close out the half.
The Eagles played impressive defense in the first and limited Redlands to just 28 percent shooting from the field. Biola, on the other hand, hit 48 percent of its shots despite missing some easy attempts around the basket.
In the second half, the Bulldogs began hitting more shots and eventually cut the gap to just 10 at 47-37 with 10:36 to go. However, the Biola defense would respond again and again and would not allow Redlands to get any closer than that, stretch the lead to as many as 22 before settling for the 20-point win.
Campbell led all scorers with 14 points on the strength of four three-pointers in teh game. He wrapped up the night hitting 4-of-7 beyond the arc and adding four rebounds. Schroeder had an easy time inside, scoring 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting, adding eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Sophomore forward Josh Miller added 10 points for the Eagles with five rebounds and three assists in just 26 minutes of play.
Biola forced 19 Bulldog turnovers which were converted into 26 points for the Eagles. Redlands was able to scored just six points off 11 Biola turnovers in the game.
Redlands was led by Patrick Coffey, who scored 14 points and added a pair of assists.
The Eagles return to GSAC play for their next game, hosting arch-rival Azusa Pacific University on Tuesday (Jan. 6) at 7:30 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as a sellout crowd is expected.
