SIOUX CITY, Iowa --- Senior outside hitters Meghan Warkentin and Jessica Buffum each recorded 13 kills as Biola rebounded from a sub-par performance with a dominating one, pulling off a 25-16, 25-13, 25-13 sweep over Lewis-Clark State College on Wednesday in day two of the NAIA Championships.
The Eagles improve to 29-3 on the season and take control of their pool with a 2-0 record. The Warriors, who had pulled off a stunning five-set win over No. 11 Madonna on Tuesday, falls to 29-3 and 1-1 in the pool.
Biola had one of its best matches of the season on one of the biggest stages today, posting an impressive .304 hitting percentage and holding Lewis-Clark State to a .050 attack percentage.
The two teams got off to an even start in the first set, until Biola slowly started to pull away with an 8-3 run to take a 21-13 lead. The Eagles would exchange points down the stretch en route to the 25-16 win.
In the second, things got off to a shaky start for Biola as Lewis-Clark State jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. However, that would be it for the Warriors for a while as the Eagles rattled off a remarkable 17-1 run which included 13-straight points served by junior setter Abbie Wright.
Biola was clicking on all cylinders at that point and carried that momentum in the third game, opening with a 10-1 run, stretching the lead to 15-4 before settling on the 25-13 win.
The Eagle middle blockers played remarkably well. Senior Kristen Peterson had six kills in 11 swings and added seven block while junior Kelsey Christoferson picked up eight kills in 12 swings with one block.
