Eagles Honor Seniors, Fall to Sunbirds

Biola honors three seniors and takes a set off undefeated Fresno Pacific in a 3–1 defeat

LA MIRADA --- The Biola volleyball team took on the undefeated Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Senior Night in Chase Gymnasium. The Eagles fell 3-1 to FPU (15-25, 21-25, 25-23, 13-25).

The Eagles honored their three seniors, Beth Bellfi, Bri Bellfi and Kendall Vandertuig.

Kendall Vandertuig and Juliana Van Ommering each bounced 12 kills while Hannah Hanson and Payton Tully tacked on eight apiece. Hannah Guzzetti, Simi Kapustova, and Emma Fairbairn combined for eight total kills. Lexi Lambert and Hanson dished out 41 of the 46 BU assists. Defensively, Bri Bellfi was everywhere, collecting 24 digs. Kapustova anchored the net, recording four of the Eagles 10 total blocks.

The first set started with both teams trading points but a 13-4 Sunbirds run put Biola out of reach. Four straight FPU points closed set one, 25-15.

Set two saw a much tighter battle. The Eagles rallied late behind kills from Tully and Vandertuig but BU came up short, 25-21.

The third set featured a quality team effort. Biola took the lead early thanks to a Hanson kill and never gave it up. Five different Eagles logged kills registering their most efficient offensive set tallying 14 kills on a .314 hitting percentage. BU closed the set, 25-23.

FPU flipped momentum in the fourth set, closing the match, 25-13. Despite eight kills, the Eagles couldn't break through the Sunbirds' cohesive defense.

Biola's final regular season game will be played on the road tomorrow night against CUI in CU Arena.
