LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola senior outside hitter Meghan Warkentin earned another impressive honor on Monday as she was named an CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine First-Team Academic All-American in the College Division.

The senior from Visalia, Calif., is one of just six volleyball players on the NCAA Division II, Division II, NAIA and NJCAA levels to be named to the first-team and one of just 18 to receive national recognition overall. She is also the first Biola athlete to receive the national award.

Warkentin has maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA over her collegiate career while pursuing a degree in Mathematics. She has also been a dominant force on the court where she leads the team with 301 kills (3.17 kills/set). Warkentin has amassed 1,456 kills in her three seasons with the Eagles, ranking her sixth on the all-time list at Biola.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II, III NAIA, and NJCAA covering all NCAA championship sports.

Biola travels to Sioux City, Iowa, to compete in the NAIA National Championships on Dec. 2-6. The Eagles enter the tournament with a 27-3 overall record and are the No. 2 seed in the field.
