Maggie McGill and sophomore
Kelsey Christoferson each had 12 kills as No. 5 Biola University remained undefeated on the season with a 30-24, 30-20, 30-17 win over Hope International on Tuesday in Fullerton.
The Eagles improve to 12-0 on the season and stays perfect at 5-0 in GSAC play while the Royals fall to 3-5 and to 1-4 in conference.
Biola used a balanced attack to get past a much-improved Hope squad as five players had seven or more kills led by the 12 of McGill and Christoferson. Senior opposite hitter
Brittany Wing had 11 kills while junior
Kelsey Mitchell added eight and junior
Jessica Buffum contributed seven.
In the first game, the Eagles jumped out to a quick lead, but despite recording 25 kills in the game had to hold on as Hope made a late run. With Biola up 25-15, the Royals started to comeback and fought off three game points before running out of time and losing 30-24.
However, the first game appeared to take a lot out of the Royals as their hitting percentage fell into the negative range in games two and three and Biola hit its stride to earn the match victory.
The Eagles had a strong night offensively, posting a .341 attack percentage and recording 57 kills in the match.
Biola's proficient pair of setters had a fine night as sophomore
Abbie Wright had 27 assists, six digs and an ace while junior
Christina Perkins had 21 assists and also added six digs and an ace.
Not to be forgotten, sophomore libero
Katie Stevens had 13 digs for the Eagles and served very tough for Biola on the evening.
Biola's next match should be an outstanding one as the Eagles host No. 2 Concordia University at Chase Gymnasium on Saturday (Sept. 22) at 7:00 p.m.
