Biola limited to four runs as Sea Lions capitalize on big second inning

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The Biola baseball team traveled to San Diego for the final two games of the 2026 baseball season. In game one, the Eagles fell to the Sea Lions, 9-4.

The high powered offense for Biola was kept off the board, plating only four runs across the nine innings. Nick Madole went 2-for-4, while Luke Caruso, James Whitman, Reef Danner, Kyle Rogers, and Cole Thomson all had solo knocks. Rogers and Danner combined for three RBIs.

Luke Ballantyne got the start for Biola. Ballantyne tossed two and two-thirds allowing nine runs, only two earned, seven hits and three walks. He also had three strikeouts. Nathan Hernandez threw one and a third, giving up only two hits and two walks while striking out two. John Iacono followed by recording four outs of hitless baseball, walking two batters and striking out one. Erick Felix closed out the game throwing two and two-thirds of one hit ball. He struck out two.

Biola scored first in the top half of the first. Back-to-back walks to Jonny Tewinkle and Whitman set the table for Rogers and Danner, who lined singles to left field.

Point Loma was quick to respond, crossing home three times capped with an RBI triple.

After a couple walks and a base hit, the Sea Lions loaded the bases. Three singles allowed five runs to score, giving PLNU their largest lead of the day.

The Eagles loaded the bases in the fourth. Madole scored via a defensive error, bringing Biola back to within six.

BU tacked on one more in the ninth before the final out.
