Eagles Finish Strong at Dominican

Symons throws shutout as Eagles erupt for 15 hits

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.---The Biola softball team closed out its series against Dominican in dominant fashion, securing an 8–0 five-inning mercy-rule victory on Tuesday afternoon at Penguin Field behind a big third inning and strong pitching from DJ Symons.

Biola wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Alexa Medley Sheard, Jackie Ibarra and Kendall Nakano recorded consecutive singles to load the bases, and Mikala Huskey drove in the game's first run with a single to give the Eagles a 1–0 lead.

The Eagles broke the game open in the third inning with a six-run outburst. Nakano started the rally with an RBI single, and Huskey followed with a sacrifice fly. Kennadie Tsue added an RBI walk, and Leilani Salgado delivered an RBI single before Sheard capped the inning with a two-RBI single to push the lead to 7–0.

Biola added one more run in the fifth inning when Janessa Hernandez launched a solo home run to right center, extending the lead to 8–0—her first home run of the season.

In the circle, Symons was in control throughout. She pitched a complete-game shutout over five innings, allowing seven hits while striking out four and keeping Dominican off the board.

The Eagles finished with 15 hits in the game. Sheard led the way with three hits and two RBIs, while Ibarra and Nakano also recorded three hits apiece. Huskey added two RBIs, Salgado drove in a run, and Hernandez homered in the fifth inning to cap the scoring.

With the win, Biola improved to 32–17 overall and 25–6 in PacWest play. The Eagles return home and have senior day on Saturday, April 18th at Freedom Field.
