Winning in Extras

Alexa Medley Sheard tripled to score the game-winning run against CUI.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola softball team defeated nationally-ranked No. 19 Concordia University in extra innings.

With two outs in the eighth inning, Lillianna Garcia kept the rally alive by getting hit by a pitch. Alexa Medley Sheard followed with a clutch triple to right-center field, giving Biola a 3–2 lead.

Kayla Bousquette took care of the bottom half of the inning, retiring the side in order to secure the 3–2 win for Biola. Bousquette pitched all eight innings and allowed nine hits and two earned runs to score while striking out five. Her overall record in the circle improved to 7–3.

Biola scored first in the sixth inning and CUI would tie up the game in the bottom of the seventh.

In the sixth inning, Jackie Ibarra singled to lead off the inning and was pushed over to second by Kendall Nakano.Garcia then homered to put two runs on the scoreboard for BU (2-0).

Biola plays next at home on Friday, March 13 at 12 and 2 p.m. against Hawaii Hilo.
