LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team earned a 4–0 win over Hawaii Hilo on Friday afternoon at Freedom Field. Strong pitching from
Kayla Bousquette and an 11-hit offensive performance helped the Eagles secure the victory.
Biola threatened early in the first inning. Lizzie Byer singled through the right side and later advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt by Alexa Sheard and a single from Jackie Ibarra. However, Hawaii Hilo worked out of the jam and kept the game scoreless.
The Eagles broke through in the second inning. Mikala Huskey started the rally with a double down the right-field line and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Grace Harrison to give Biola a 1–0 lead.
Biola added to its lead in the fifth inning with a three-run frame. Byer and Sheard opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Ibarra followed with another hit to load the bases. Kendall Nakano then delivered a two-RBI single to left field to extend the lead to 3–0. Later in the inning, Kennadie Tsue singled to bring home another run and make it 4–0.
Meanwhile, Bousquette controlled the game in the circle. The senior pitcher went the distance, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing eight hits and two walks. She kept Hawaii Hilo off the scoreboard and improved her record to 8–3 on the season.
Biola finished the game with 11 hits, led by Jackie Ibarra's three-hit performance. Byer and Huskey each recorded two hits, while Nakano drove in two runs to help power the Eagles' offense.
With the win, Biola moved to 13–13 on the season.
