Eagles Fall in Finale

Biola tally four runs, but Vulcans pull away to win 16-4

HILO, Hawaii --- The Biola baseball team closed out their four game slate against the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans on Thursday night. The Eagles fell 16-4.

James Whitman, Jonny Tewinkle and Oscar Knapp provided the offensive spark for Biola. Luke Caruso went 3-for-3 with a walk, while Kyle Rogers went 1-for-3 also drawing a walk. 

Scoring twice on base hits from Whitman and Knapp, Biola scored first for the fourth game in a row. The Eagles tacked on two more in the top of the sixth, courtesy of RBI hits from Tewinkle and Whitman.

Hilo exploded for nine runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth sealing the series win over BU. 

Luke Ballantyne got the start for the Eagles, pitching three and a third innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out three. Valentine Lopez entered in relief, surrendering five runs on three hits and two walks. Knapp tossed one and a two-thirds innings while allowing two runs on three hits and three strikeouts. Aidan Cube closed out the game, throwing one inning and giving up two runs on two hits while striking out two.

Biola moves to 12-12 overall and 8-8 in conference. They will play in Irvine against CUI on March 13 at 2 p.m.
