Fifth-Inning Fireworks

Eagles score five before Vulcans answer with eight to take game two

HILO, Hawaii --- The Biola Baseball faced the Vulcans for game two of four, losing by a final score of 10-9.

Offensively, the Eagles bats picked up right where they left off. James Whitman went 3-for-3, including a two-run home run. Kyle Rogers went 2-for-2, driving in three RBIs. 

Gabe Magallan tossed four quality innings, giving up one run on only two hits and striking out three. Aidan Cube, Taj Brar, Noe Novella and Erick Felix finished the final two innings.

Whitman put the first two runs on the board after a two-run homer to center field, scoring Luke Caruso.

Hilo scored once in the bottom of the second, making it 2-1, before Biola tacked on one in the top of the third. Whitman scored on a RBI double by Rogers.

After a short rain delay, the fifth inning saw fireworks from both sides. The Eagles plated five runs by way of consecutive hits from Adiel Torres and Nick Madole, extending their lead to 8-1. The Vulcans responded with eight runs of their own, giving them the lead, 9-8.

Rogers tied it in the top of sixth with an RBI triple, scoring Whitman. Hilo retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning, making it 10-9. The Eagles were unable to capitalize on a lead off pinch hit single by Nicholas Whippo. 

The Eagles move to 12-10 overall and 8-6 in conference. 

Biola will finish their Hawaii road trip tomorrow starting at 5 p.m. PT (3 p.m. HT).
