Clutch Offense in Extra Innings

Whitman, Tewinkle homer as Knapp’s big day fuels 13-9 extra-innings win

LINCOLN, Calif. --- The Biola baseball team visited the Jessup Warriors in McBean Park for the first of a four game series. The Eagles won in 10 innings, 13-9.

In the fourth, Kevin Villegas drove in Thomson after Whippo and Thomson reached via a single and a hit by pitch. The Warriors found the equalizer once more in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff single, wild pitch and RBI single.

Tewinkle put the Eagles ahead in the top of the seventh inning, taking on center field for his ninth home run of the season. In the bottom half of the inning, Jessup retook the lead 5-4.

The Eagles scored five runs in the eighth to take their biggest lead of the day, 9-5. Thomson started the inning with a leadoff single. Ty Cowley walked and Caruso singled to score Thomson. Whitman reached via a hit by pitch before Rogers drove in two on a two-RBI single to right field. Knapp capped off the inning with a two-run double.

The Warriors kept things interesting, launching a three-run home run to bring Jessup back to within one. In the bottom of the ninth, Jessup tied it after a walk and RBI double.

In the extras, the Eagles posted four runs on only four hits to take the lead. Tewinkle reached on a walk, while Whitman and Rogers were both hit by pitches. Knapp drove in Tewinkle on an RBI single. Tommy Kendlinger drove in two on a base hit to left center field.
