Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Still Rolling

Biola gets its third-straight win and is now a sparkling 11-1 this season.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola dominated visiting Colorado Mesa on Monday to defeat the PacWest Conference affiliate member in a 5-2 battle at the Biola Tennis Center. It's the Eagles' eighth home win in 2026, improving to 8-1 at home and 11-1 overall.

The Eagles won no. 2 doubles and no. 3 doubles to lock up the doubles point early and get off to a strong start to the match. Biola's top pairing was up 5-2 as well when the point was clinched, and their match was halted. The number two pairing was a relatively new one as Juan Vallejo and Thiago Canessa combined for just the second time this season and won 6-1 in  a super quick match.

Singles play saw Biola clinch the match with four individual straight-set wins. The team narrowly missed out on sweeping the match entirely as Colorado Mesa's two wins came via third-set victories at the no. 1 and no. 3 flights.

Those three-set matches were long and competitive. The same could not be said for three of the Eagles' four singles wins as Alejandro Flores Monteverde, Keyon Gahvarehchi and Mateo Rivas each dominated their matches.

At the number two spot, Flores Monteverde took his game 6-1; 6-1 to keep his singles record unblemished at 8-0 this season.

Gahvarehchi's first set was one of just two perfect 6-0 set wins on Monday. He followed that up with a 6-1 second set win to clinch his match and also move out to 8-0 in singles this year. He's been a swiss army knife for Head Coach David Goodman this season, winning at four different spots in the lineup.

Rivas and Canessa also got singles wins to complete Biola's big win. It's the third-straight victory for the No. 25 ranked Biola Eagles. Up next for the team is a road battle at Point Loma (3-5) on Saturday.
