BU Falls in Series Finale to Hawaii Hilo

Nakano drives in Biola’s lone run as Eagles fall in game two to Hawaii Hilo.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team fell 4–1 to Hawaii Hilo on Saturday afternoon at Freedom Field, splitting the day's doubleheader.

Hawaii Hilo struck first in the opening inning and built up a 2-0 lead.

Biola responded in the fourth. Alexa Medley Sheard singled to start the rally and moved into scoring position before Kendall Nakano doubled down the right-field line to drive in the Eagles' lone run and cut the deficit to 2–1.

Both pitchers settled in through the middle innings. Biola's DJ Symons kept Hawaii Hilo off the board for several frames while Janessa Santos limited the Eagles' offense.

The Vulcans added insurance runs in the seventh inning. A sacrifice fly scored them one run, and then an RBI double extended their lead to 4–1.

Biola was unable to generate a late rally in the bottom of the seventh as Hawaii Hilo closed out the victory.

Symons pitched all seven innings for the Eagles, allowing four runs on ten hits while striking out five. Nakano led Biola offensively with a double and the team's only RBI, while Banos recorded one of the Eagles' three hits.

Medley Sheard had an impressive performance across the four-game series, starting all four contests and batted .571 with eight hits. Jackie Ibarra batted .500 and Lizzie Byer hit .438.

With the loss, Biola moved to 14–15 on the season and 7-4 in the PacWest Conference. Hawaii Hilo improved 13-10 and 10-6 in the league.
