Tewinkle Drives in Four, Eagles Fall in Series Opener

Early five-run inning from Concordia Irvine proves too much as Biola drops game one

IRVINE, Calif. --- The Biola baseball team visited the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles on Golden Eagles Field for the beginning of a four game series. The Eagles fell to CUI, 12-5.

The Golden Eagles jumped on the board early, plating five runs in the first. Biola was able to counter just two innings later, responding with three runs of their own. Luke Caruso drove in Cole Thomson by way of a sacrifice fly before Jonny Tewinkle hit a two run home run over the right field wall, scoring Ransom Lorenzen. 

In the fifth, Tewinkle drove in two more on a single to center. CUI tacked on five more runs before the final out.

Blake Wentz got the start for Biola. In his lone inning of work, he gave up five runs on five hits and struck out one. Aidan Cube threw the following three innings, giving up two runs on two hits and four strikeouts. Reagan Samples faced 12 batters, allowing three runs on four hits. Christian Trejo, Taj Brar and Nico Hagadorn combined for the final four outs.

The Eagles will play game two beginning at 5 p.m.
