BU Narrowly Defeated by #17 APU

Eagles drop narrow 4–3 decision to ranked Cougars.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's tennis team was narrowly defeated 4–3 by nationally-ranked No. 17 Azusa Pacific at the Biola Tennis Center.

The Eagles had an exciting start, claiming a hard-fought doubles point. Dafne Andres and Ivet Stancheva sparked the momentum with a 6–4 upset on the first court over the No. 15-ranked tandem of Larsson and Suviste. APU countered with a second court victory but the Eagles were able to take care of business on court 3. Cassie Donar and Alexis Romano prevailed 7–1 in the tiebreak to clinch the doubles point.

Singles proved not to be favorable to the Eagles. Biola lost matches on courts 1-4 and picked up wins on courts five and six. The first and second courts were lost in three sets. Kailee Mazzeo faced nationally-ranked No. 45 Larsson on the first court. Mazzeo won the first set 6-3 but would fall 2-6 in sets two and three. On the second court, Ivet Stancheva lost her first set 4-6, won the second 6-3 and fell 4-6 in set three.

Isabelle Karam recorded Biola's first singles victory on the sixth court. She won her first set 10-8 in a tiebreak, lost her second 3-6 and came back to win the third 6-3.

Yeo Kyung Kim collected BU's final victory on the fifth court. She won her first set 6-2, lost the second 1-6 and won the third 7-5 in the tiebreak.

Biola fell 4-3 while APU improved 7-2. The Eagles play next at Westmont College on Saturday, Feb. 28.
