Double OT Win

Brown, Harris lead Biola past Vanguard in double overtime

LA MIRADA --- The Biola men's basketball team outlasted the visiting Vanguard Lions in double overtime, 85-76, at Chase Gymnasium.

Cameron Brown led the way with a season-high 31 points, including 10 made free throws. Chris Harris secured his first career double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Tyus Parrish-Tillman contributed a career-high 15 rebounds and seven blocks. All 85 points were scored by the five starters.

The Eagles led the whole first half, outscoring the Lions 37-29. Brown and Harris combined for 25 points as they set the tone defensively and pushed the tempo early. Biola found success attacking the rim and moving the ball to generate quality looks, while stringing together timely stops on the other end. The Eagles outrebounded and outpaced the quick Vanguard offense.

The second half mirrored the intensity of the first, with neither side able to create lasting separation. Biola answered every push with poise, knocking down key shots and getting key contributions from Brown and Charlie Gehler. With five seconds left and BU down by two, Gehler sank two free throws to tie it at 69 and send it to overtime.

The first overtime period was a defensive showcase with each team only allowing one bucket each. Both teams had chances to win it, but after five minutes, the score was knotted at 73 apiece.

In the final frame, Brown and Harris called game. After four straight points from Brown, Harris put the game on ice with a clutch triple. Parrish-Tillman had a key block that closed it out, 85-76.

The Eagles improve to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in conference.

Biola will visit Azusa Pacific (4-6, 2-3) on Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Felix Event Center.
