Holding it Down at Home

The Eagles protected their home court on Saturday, defeating Hawaii Pacific 77-61.

LA MIRADA --- The winning streak for the Biola men's basketball squad hit three on Saturday, with another double-digit victory. The Eagles (14-6, 8-4 PacWest) routed the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific (9-11, 4-6 PacWest) with a strong second half, winning 77-61.

From start to finish, the BU squad maintained control. BU scored the first bucket and never relinquished the lead, hitting a game-high lead of 16 points three separate times.

The defense shined for the Eagles in the early going, holding the Sharks to seven points through 10 minutes. The Sharks opened up the contest shooting 27.2 percent from the floor with six turnovers, as Biola jumped ahead.

The final nine minutes of the first half saw a complete 180, as HPU nearly erased the deficit. After hitting three field goals on 11 attempts to start the game, the team ended the half sinking 10 of 13 attempts from the floor. A 25-11 rally for HPU brought the BU lead down to two at 35-33 at the halftime break.

Casey Cappo corrected the momentum swing at the start of half number two. The senior hit a three-pointer on each of the first three possessions for Biola, aiding the Eagles 11-3 run to start the half, forcing a timeout from HPU.

The BU lead never dropped below eight the rest of the way, as the Eagles locked in the 77-61 conference win.

Cappo was huge in the second half, offering 18 points with six field goals. He ended the night pacing the squad with 22 points, while also adding four assists and six rebounds.

"I feel good. It was a good win but we gotta keep it rolling though. Shout out to our point guards, Daniel and Davian for feeding me the ball," commented Cappo after the win.

The Biola team was lights out from the floor in the second half, shooting 53.6 percent from the planks and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Davian Brown delivered in the scoring column as well, logging 19 points in 33 minutes on the court. The guard was efficient with a 63.6 field goal percentage and dished out three helpers.

Erik Howlin did a little bit of everything for BU, tallying seven points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.

The Eagles will be back on the road on Wednesday, battling Westmont at 7:30 pm.
