Crazy Comeback Falls Short

Biola put together a 15-0 run in the final eight minutes but was unable to overcome the Silverswords on the road.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --- The Eagles came up empty in Hawaii with a loss at Chaminade (9-16, 5-12 PacWest) on Monday night. The BU squad (14-10, 9-7 PacWest) nearly pulled off a historic comeback by erasing a 16-point deficit but could not jump in front, falling 69-66.

The Silverswords came out of the halftime break shooting the ball well. The host squad hit 12 shots on 18 attempts to build its 16-point lead at 65-49.

On the flip side, Biola struggled in the stretch, giving up six turnovers and going 1-4 from the free throw line.

With just over eight minutes to go, the Eagles had just enough time to make a run for it and they did just that.

The rally started with buckets from Maximo Milovich and Casey Cappo but the Biola defense really began to shine. Over the eight minute run BU held CUH to 0-9 shooting and three turnovers for a 7:30 scoreless streak.

The Eagles brought the game within one possession inside two minutes and the game was afoot. A free throw put the team within one point at 65-64 but Chaminade responded at the line with two of their own. Cappo hit a layup to return the team to within one but once again CUH hit its two free throws for a three-point lead. A last second heave for the Eagles was no good and the Silverswords edged the Eagles, 69-66.

Cappo offered his season-best scoring output with 22 points on Monday. The junior forward went seven-for-15 from the floor and seven-for-eight from the charity stripe for his scoring total. Cappo was also active on the boards with nine rebounds and a block.

Milovich nabbed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The strong showing was his sixth double-double so far this year.

Also reaching double digit points on Monday was Nathan Medina with 14 and Tyus Parrish-Tillman with 10.

The Eagles will return home for their next bout, hosting Azusa Pacific on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
