Too Little Too Late

The Biola offense woke up too late in game one on Thursday, falling to Fresno Pacific.

LA MIRADA --- The Eagles returned to conference play on Thursday, beginning a four-game home series against Fresno Pacific (7-9, 1-0 PacWest). Biola (5-14, 0-6 PacWest) rallied late but fell short in game one of the doubleheader, 8-3.

The push from the Biola offense came in the eighth frame. The hits came in one big bunch with three-straight hits for the BU bats. Austin Carillo was the first score for BU, leading off with a walk and scoring on a double from Taylor Justus.

Bobby Brown followed Justus and lined the first pitch he saw to center field. The single put runners on first and third with no one out. Jonathan Smith stepped up in the nine-spot and roped the ball into the opposite field gap. The stand up double brought home Justus and Brown, giving the Eagles a three-run frame.

The big inning was important for the Eagles, who only had one hit through seven innings. The BU lineup was ready in the eighth, taking advantage of the first FPU reliever of the day.

Fresno Pacific built its lead gradually throughout the game. The visitors scored every other inning to hold a 6-3 lead over Biola heading into the ninth. FPU added two more insurance runs in the ninth to help earn the 8-3 win.

Game two is scheduled to go seven innings and is set to begin at 2:00 pm at Eagles Diamond.
