Wyatt Wins It

Biola walked it off in game two on Thursday with a home run from Wyatt Duncan.

LA MIRADA — Short bursts of offense was the recipe for the Eagles, as they earned a win in game two on Thursday. Biola (6-14, 1-6 PacWest) entered the seventh and final frame down by two but home runs from Tyler White and Wyatt Duncan flipped the game on its head and gave the BU squad a 5-4 victory over Fresno Pacific (7-10, 1-1 PacWest).

The visiting Sunbirds chipped away on the attack throughout game two. One run came in from FPU in each of the first three innings and one more sixth. Biola responded with three runs in the fifth, leaving a one-run difference with three outs to go.

In the bottom of the seventh, White provided the first spark. The leadoff man battled with two strikes and sent the ball over the left field fence, ensuring a minimum of extra innings with a 4-4 tie.

Duncan wanted no part of extra innings. The designated hitter looked for a fastball and took it for a ride. The solo homer walked it off for Biola, marking the second game-winning homer for the junior.

"I knew I was going to get at least one fastball and I did not want to miss it," said Duncan. "As soon as I hit it, I knew I got all of it but I wanted to keep running because I did not want to be 'that' guy."

On a day when the Biola bats were not on fire, the team rallied at just the right times to find a split on Thursday. One of those times was the bottom of the fifth with the Eagles down by three. The deficit did not stop Biola, as the first three batters reached base to open up the frame. White helped the first run cross with a single to score Noah Ruiz. A big FPU error helped the next two runs across, as a wild throw allowed Jonathan Smith to touch home from third and White from second, knotting the game at three.

Gilbert Lopez logged the win in relief. The senior polished off two innings with one run allowed, finishing off a great start from Bobby Brown who picked up the first five frames.

"It was great to get the comeback win in game two," commented head coach Jesse Rodgers. "They played us tough all day and we found a way to pull it out. There were lots of great efforts on the mound throughout the day and it was nice to see the offense pull through at the end."

"It was good to tie things together and keep battling," added Duncan. "Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going and get two more on Saturday."

Biola baseball will be back at Eagles Diamond on Saturday with another doubleheader against the Sunbirds beginning at 11:00 am.
