Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Billi Derleth, Assistant Sports Information Director

Eagles Fall, Penguins Persevere

The women’s basketball team fell 65-54 to Dominican who persevered in the fourth quarter.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Women's Basketball team lost a tough 65-54 matchup against Dominican on Thursday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The first quarter had some early lead changes between Biola (10-11 overall, 8-5 PacWest) and Dominican (14-9, 12-4 PacWest). Biola began by scoring the first two baskets, jumping to a 5-0 lead thanks to Natasa Radovic and a three-pointer by Laila Walker. The Penguins quickly collected themselves and came back with the next three baskets, taking the lead 7-5. A foul committed by Dominican gave Biola a chance to make up the difference, sending Aysia Johnson to the charity stripe. Johnson would successfully make her two free throws and tie up the game 7-7.

Radovic then gave the Eagles the advantage, making a layup in the paint (9-7) and Biola would settle in and continue to hold their lead until a tough fourth quarter.

Biola was leading 46-44 heading into the fourth, but Dominican would go on to outscore BU 21-8 in what would be a difficult quarter for the Eagles.

Dominican quickly tied up the game 46-46 by making the first basket of the final frame. The game continued to be tied up three more times before the Penguins pressed on the gas, making eight-consecutive baskets to conclude the game 65-54 in their favor.

Radovic led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points, followed by Johnson with 10 and Walker with nine. Radovic also recorded her second double-double of the season with the addition of 11 rebounds. Interestingly, Radovic's first double-double of the year was also against the Penguins at Dominican where she scored 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Biola will regroup and get ready to play Academy of Art on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1:30 p.m.
