Biola clinched its spot in the PacWest Conference Tournament with a win over Concordia on Thursday.

IRVINE, Calif. --- The margins were slight on Thursday night but the Biola men's basketball team stuck it out for an important victory. The Eagles (15-10, 10-8 PacWest) defeated Concordia (5-17, 4-13 PacWest) on the road and secured their spot in the upcoming PacWest Conference Tournament.

The visiting Eagles came out looking good on Thursday evening. Through the opening 20 minutes of play, BU shot 59.1 percent from the floor, while tacking on 10 points from the charity stripe.

Biola finished off the first half with all the momentum. Up by two, the Eagles made their move and went on a 9-2 run in the final three minutes of the half, helping them to a 38-29 halftime advantage.

Casey Cappo was important in the opening 20 minutes, making an impact off the bench. The forward picked up 10 points with four free throws in just 11 minutes on the floor. Maximo Milovich also dominated in the paint with nine points in the opening half.

The battle continued after the break with an enlivened Golden Eagles squad. The hosting unit pushed back and cut its deficit to one with a 10-2 rally just three minutes into the half.

Biola bounced back and held onto its lead, never trailing in the entirety of the second half. The Eagles built their largest lead with 2:41 left in the contest at 12 points.

CUI gave it one last push but it was too little, too late. A Concordia three-pointer brought the game to 65-61 but with 22 seconds on the clock, the host squad was out of options. A free throw brought the BU advantage to five, before the remaining seconds ticked, giving Biola a 66-61 victory.

Cappo finished as the leading scorer for the Eagles, grabbing 17 points on the night. The total marked his season-high, as Cappo shot 5-6 from the field and 7-10 from the free throw line.

Overall the scoring was spread relatively evenly with four Eagles reaching double figures. Alex Wright notched 10 points to pair with 10 rebounds, securing himself a double-double.

Biola found plenty of success at the free throw line, sinking 22 foul shots on Thursday. The free throw total actually outpaced the Eagles total field goals (21) in the contest.

BU will be back at home for its next contest, taking on Hawaii Hilo in its Red Sea Night on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
