Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot At The Wright Time

Biola works some magic late to take a 69-68 road win at Fresno Pacific.

FRESNO, Calif. — On Saturday, Biola Men's Basketball had its worst offensive half of the season to get going, shooting just 17 percent (5-for-23) in the first 20 minutes. However, the Eagles locked in through the final 12 minutes and used a trio of late Alex Wright 3-pointers and a go-ahead bucket by Chris Rossow in their final possession to secure a 69-68 road win at Fresno Pacific.

The Eagles were +10 in made field goals in the second half, going 15-for-23 while seeing three men score in double figures as the team outscored FPU 48-37 to steal the game. Michael Bagatourian led the way with 12 second-half points, followed by 11 from Wright and 10 from Maximo Milovich. Those three alone outscored Biola's entire first-half output by 12 points.

Fresno Pacific led the game for over 33 minutes, while Biola led for just three minutes, but it was BU who led for just about the entire final minute, which is of course most important.

With 7:54 left on the clock Bagatourian scored a mid-range shot to begin Biola's comeback. That  bucket put BU down just seven at 54-47. That was followed by a minute and a half of both teams being scoreless before Alex Wright hit a triple to cut the lead down even more.

FPU momentarily extended it back out to a six-point advantage before Wright hit another three on a consecutive possession for the Eagles to continue to force the issue. From there, the game hovered between a 4-6 point margin for the next two minutes until another Bagatourian signature jump shot brought BU back within one possession at the 3:45 mark.

It was one minute after that when Wright hit his third huge three-pointer to tie the game at 61 a piece. It was the first time Biola was not trailing since the game was 4-4.

FPU immediately answered the call with a three on the next possession, but Biola did not back down. The Eagles used a free throw and Rossow jumper to get the game back tied as the contest moved into the final two minutes.

FPU would take a one-point lead with a made free-throw with 1:10 to play. It was an important free-throw that allowed them to again surge ahead by one point with a clutch three-pointer to make it 68-67 with 11 ticks left on the clock.

Rossow brought it up the court swiftly to bury a go-ahead bucket with just over four seconds left. Coming out of the timeout FPU couldn't even manage a shot in their final opportunity as time expired.

Bagatourian ended up as the game's leading scorer with 20 points to go with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists in a gritty effort. Wright had 18 points and a team-high 18 rebounds as those two carried the load to get Biola it's 11th conference win.

Biola improves to 17-4 overall and 11-3 in the PacWest Conference competition. Fresno Pacific drops to 13-6 (7-5 PacWest). The Eagles' road trip continues with a 7:30 p.m. Monday matchup at Holy Names (5-14, 3-8 PacWest).
