Thankful for Another Win

The Eagles will head into Thanksgiving break with a two-game winning streak, following a comfortable win on Wednesday night.

LA MIRADA --- Twas the night before Thanksgiving and the Eagles showed up to Chase Gymnasium ready to play. Biola improved its record in 2021 to 5-1 with a 29-point rout over the visiting La Sierra Golden Eagles. BU notched wins on back-to-back nights, following the 84-55 triumph on Wednesday.

Biola got off on the right foot with a 15-5 run to start the midweek contest. The midrange game was working for the Eagles off the tip with three jumpers for their first three makes.

The BU lead hovered right around 10 for the majority of the first half. Another surge to end the half, gave the host squad a 48-27 advantage at the break. In the final 3:52 stretch of the opening half, BU outscored La Sierra 13-2, holding the visitors to 1-5 shooting and two turnovers. Offensively, the Eagles tacked on three triples, including a pair from Jesse Elrod.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles could only muster to decrease their deficit to 18 in their comeback push. BU responded with a 16-3 run to bolster its lead to 31 points. Biola cruised the rest of the way for the 84-55 finish.

The BU offense was well-balanced, as five Eagles tallied double figures in the scoring column. Alex Wright and Elrod each nabbed 14 points on the night to pace the team. Elrod reached double-digit points for the first time this season, sinking six field goals and two three-pointers from the top of the arc.

Michael Bagatourian followed with 13 points and came up one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high nine boards. Guards Chris Rossow and Omari Maulana also pocketed 13 points with field goal percentages above 50.0 percent.

The Eagles grabbed 10 steals and forced 16 LSU turnovers on the night. Kevin Stone was aggressive on defense, picking up three steals to match Wright for the team-high on Wednesday. Elrod did well protecting the rim, logging three blocks.

The rebounding effort was a team effort, as every single Eagle recorded at least one rebound.

"Right now it's just coming down to the details on the court and staying together with team chemistry," said Maulana following the win. "We're making sure we stay sharp by focusing on the small things."

Biola will be back in action on Saturday in a home game against West Coast Baptist at 5:00 pm.
