Eagles Return to Form

Biola bounced back from a tough loss with a big win over San Diego Christian on Tuesday.

LA MIRADA --- After suffering its first loss of the 2021 campaign, Biola found its groove on Tuesday night. The Eagles reclaimed Chase Gymnasium in a 95-53 rout over San Diego Christian.

From start to finish the game belonged to BU. Alex Wright was hot from the tip, scoring the first seven points of the contest for a 7-0 Biola lead.

Biola kept the pressure on in the opening half, holding the Hawks scoreless for five minutes of game action. Within the positive stretch, BU added 11 points to its lead. 10 of the team's 11 points came in the paint, as the Eagles dominated around the rim. On the night, Biola tallied 56 points in the paint, outpacing SDCC by 26.

The score continued to balloon in Biola's favor, as the host squad held a 51-22 advantage through 20 minutes. The second half was not much better for the Hawks. BU posted its largest lead at 44 points, before settling for the 95-53 final margin.

The shooting performance for the Eagles was much improved on Tuesday, as the team converted at a 63.8 percent rate from inside the arc and was 17-20 from the free throw line. BU was efficient in the first half, knocking down 60.6 percent of their shots from the floor and 62.5 percent of their shots from long range.

Four Eagles reached double figures in the scoring column. Wright led the way with 19 points and was followed by Luke Howard with 12, Chris Rossow with 11 and Omari Maulana with 10.

Howard saw his first bucket, as an Eagle, in the win. The Lipscomb University transfer went 4-9 from the field and 4-5 from the charity stripe to go along with seven rebounds. The freshman, Maulana, notched his first double-digit scoring performance in the win, hitting five field goals in 18 minutes on the floor.

Wright and Maximo Milovich were aggressive on the boards, combining for 24 rebounds. 11 rebounds made for a double-double on the stat sheet for Wright, who was a perfect 3-3 from downtown. Milovich posted a career-best mark with 13 rebounds, coming off the bench on Tuesday.

The Eagles will return to the planks on Wednesday night at home with a bout against La Sierra at 7:00 pm.
