Three-for-Three

The Eagles scored their third-straight win on Tuesday, pushing around the Sagehens for a 76-70 victory.

POMONA, Calif. --- A close battle fell the way of Biola, as it took down Pomona-Pitzer on the road by a 76-70 final margin. The size and strength of the Eagles overwhelmed the Sagehens to help them improve to 3-0 in the 2021 campaign.

Rebounding was crucial for Biola on Tuesday. The Eagles led in the rebounding column by 16 total boards and four offensive rebounds. Maximo Milovich took advantage of his first start this season, pacing the team with 10 rebounds on the night.

The first half was a back-and-forth tossup with neither team gaining much separation. BU made the biggest splash with an eight-point lead 17 minutes into the contest.

Michael Bagatourian was the focal point of the BU offense in the opening half, collecting 16 points. The 6-7 forward went 6-12 from the field with three free throws in 11 minutes on the court.

Three-straight three pointers for the hosting Sagehens flipped the script in the contest. A two-point BU advantage turned into a seven-point deficit five minutes into the second half.

Biola woke up following the Pomona-Pitzer outburst, offering its own favorable stretch of 31-15. The 14 minute span created the largest lead of the night for BU, as they boasted a 74-65 edge over the host squad.

Through the final minute, Pomona-Pitzer sank a three and a pair of free throws but could not erase their deficit. Chris Rossow capped off the night with a pair of foul shots, securing the 76-70 triumph for BU.

Despite a tough shooting night for the Eagles, the team was able to rely on its starting five to carry the offensive load. The group tallied 72 of the team's 76 points in the win. Alex Wright paced the BU squad with 23 points on 75.0 percent shooting from the field. The senior added seven rebounds and a tie for the team-high with three assists.

Rossow also hit the 20-point threshold on Tuesday with a plus-50.0 field goal percentage. BU's point guard found a way to the charity stripe with five free throws. Rossow matched Wright for the team-high in assists with three and used all of his 5-9 frame to pick up six boards.

Biola dominated the paint area, out-muscling the Sagehens. BU finished with 40 points in the paint compared to just 18 points from Pomona-Pitzer.

The Eagles will look to remain undefeated in their home opener on Saturday night against Cal Poly Pomona at 7:45 pm.
