Up The Leaderboard:Â
After finishing round one in the bottom half of the 18 competing schools at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay, the Eagles raced up the leaderboard in day two, powered by several impressive individual efforts throughout coach
Jane Carr's squad.
Jules Loibl had a nine-stroke improvement, improving from an 80 (+8) on day one to a 71 (-1) on day two.
Sami Penor dropped her strokes from 81 on day one to 74 on day two, recording a team-high four birdies in the process.
Alexis Gopfert also dropped her total from 82 to 75, rounding out the trio of Eagles who finished in the top 25 of the individual leaderboard. The Eagles finished in fourth place, just behind conference rival Academy of Art, thanks to one of their most impressive single-day performances of the season.
Champions!:Â
What's better than winning a team and individual conference championship in the same year? How about doing it again the next year? That's exactly what
Gabe Plendcio and Biola Men's Cross Country did in October, as Plendcio finished first in the PacWest championship race and Biola ran away with a conference title for the second year in a row. Running at the team's home course at Ted Craig Park in Fullerton, the Eagles swept all three spots on the individual podium with
Brady DeHaven and
Ryan Thompson following Plendcio's winning time of 25:09.71. And the Eagles created massive distance between themselves and second-place Notre Dame de Namur thanks to great efforts from
Angel Escobar,
Ryan St. Pierre,
Gio Orellana and
Jared Donnel, all of whom finished in the top-20 and helped Biola to a miniscule point total of 21.
