Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagles Obliterate Urban Knights

Biola has its best shooting game of the season, both inside and outside, to win by almost 30.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball follows up one of its most lackluster performances of the season with by far its best. The Eagles were on fire from all over the floor, but especially three-point land, in a 90-62 defeat of the Academy of Art Urban Knights.

The Eagles' 14 made threes is a new season-best, and perhaps what was most fascinating was the 56 percent clip that BU used to make those threes.

"It felt really nice [to be shooting the ball well]," said sophomore guard Alex Wright. "We haven't been shooting well lately so to see the ball go in was really a good feeling. After our loss earlier this week we were all focused and ready to play hard and fix our mistakes. We stressed starting strong and setting the tone and we were able to do it"

Just about everyone got in on scoring in this one as six Biola players ended in double-digits. Michael Bagatourian led the way with 20 points, with most of his scoring coming in the first half, when it was actually most important to BU.

Joining the junior forward in double figures was Chris Rossow (18), Alex Wright (14), Jesse Elrod (14) and Marquise Mosley (14). Biola shot 60 percent for the contest (32-for-54), which is a new season-best.

Both teams started the game scoring early and scoring often. The teams traded buckets for most of the first half, with the Eagles not really opening up a significant lead until the final four minutes of the first.

The game was tied at 32 when a Chris Rossow three-point shot started Biola on what would be a hefty late-half run. Biola made six field goals in a row between 4:18 and 1:05 in that first half, turning the game from 32-32 to 49-34 heading into halftime.

All but one of those six-consecutive makes were from beyond the arc.

ART U started the second half well and managed to cut into the lead a bit, getting as close as nine points in the first two minutes of the second, but then made shots became really hard to come by for the hosting Urban Knights.

Academy of Art scored the first six points of the second half, but then managed just 22 more points after that as the BU defense stepped up. The Eagles outscored ART U 41-28 in the second frame to lead to a win by almost 30 points.

"We were focused on taking away their best player number 30 and then making everyone else take tough shots," said Wright. "It worked in our favor today."

The largest lead of half two was a 32-point advantage with just about five minutes left.

Biola was out-rebounded by five, but its 20 percent advantage on made field goals wiped out any advantage there. The team also held Academy of Art to just five made threes.

The Eagles moved the ball well throughout the game, recording 17 assists to set a top-5 mark for the season. Rossow had five and Mosley had four to lead the way.

The win allows BU to improve to 13-10 (9-8 PacWest). ART U drops to 8-15 (6-10 PacWest) and suffers a season sweep to Biola.

Up next for the Eagles is a home game against Chaminade (13-7, 11-4 PacWest) on Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
