LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It's a busy week for Biola Cross Country with parts of the teams going to three separate meets in three distinct geographical areas. The action starts Friday at the San Francisco State Invitational and continues Saturday with the women's top group competing in Romeoville, Ill. at the Lewis Crossover Meet and others running nearby at the Vanguard invitational.

The men's top group travels to San Francisco this weekend for another shot at the San Francisco State Cross Country Invitational. Last season Biola's men won this event with it being run as an 8k. This year, in preparation for postseason competition, the Eagles will run a 10k course at Speedway Meadow. Stanislaus State figures to be the Eagles' biggest competition this weekend. The Warriors are No. 5 in NCAA Division II West Region and No. 24 in the national poll. Biola sits at No. 6 in the region. The two teams ran together at the Capital Cross Challenge last meet weekend. Stanislaus finished 11th with a team time of 2:05.25 and 316 points. Biola was 13th with a team time of 2:05.42 and 350 points. Academy of Art was 20th in the same meet and could be in the mix.

LEWIS CROSSOVER MEET PREVIEW: Women's 6k Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8 a.m. PT \\ Live Results \\ Course Map \\ Meet Information
Biola sends its top women's group a few states east to compete at a high-profile meet for the third-consecutive active meet weekend. The Eagles came up a bit short in their opportunity to shine in a field packed with top national competition. As a result, Head Coach Sean Henning added this Lewis Crossover Meet as a second opportunity for BU to work its way back into the regional and national rankings. The Lewis meet was won by Western Colorado in 2018. The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II with time spent in the top-3 this season. Biola's regional competition of Simon Fraser, Azusa Pacific and Western Washington rounded out the top-4 of last year's competition with WWU and SFU both currently appearing in the west region polls. Simon Fraser is the only team amongst that group of four to return to run this season. The Clan currently ranks No. 10 in the region and offer Biola an opportunity to break back in with a win over SFU. The Eagles and Simon Fraser have ran head-to-head twice already this year. Biola beat SFU at the Sundowner Invitational (53-71) three weeks ago. SFU beat Biola at the Capital Cross Challenge two weeks ago (568-664). The field features 10 teams that are either ranked or receiving votes in the most recent NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll. No. 2 Grand Valley State and No. 5 Augustana figure to lead the way.

Biola will send groups to both the men's 8k and women's 5k at the Vanguard Invitational. It's the 29th annual running of the Vanguard Invitational and is hosted at Biola's former home course, Irvine Regional Park. The Eagles have not competed at the Vanguard Invite since 2014.

LAST TIME OUT: The last meet weekend for Biola was two weeks ago at the Capital Cross Challenge. The Eagles saw the men finish 13th of 35 teams and the ladies take 27th out of 40 schools. Again, Gabe Plendcio and Mackenna Mason paced the effort for their respective teams. Plendcio ran his best 8k of the season and Mason her best 6k, but both teams saw a drop-off in their regional rankings as a result of the meet performance. Both teams dropped out of the national top-25 and the women are no longer listed in the top-10 regionally (for the first time this season). As a result of that, Head Coach Sean Henning made an adjustment to the schedule to send the women's team out to Illinois this week and have another stab at some of the top national (out of region) teams.

IT'S GO TIME: The 2019 Biola Cross Country season has added significance in that it's the Eagles' first as full members in NCAA Division II. Back on July 12 the Biola campus received a call from the NCAA Division II Membership Committee notifying BU of its successful completion of the membership transition process. The change became official as of September 1 and now Biola is officially eligible for NCAA postseason play, national and regional rankings and official NCAA postseason honors for the first time. Biola will hope to have both teams qualify for the NCAA West Region Championships this fall. The Eagles have already competed at preview meets for both NCAA Regionals and NCAA National Championships this season.

POLL POSITION: This week the men's team held steady at No. 6 in the west region. They do not appear in the USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II Top-25, but they are receiving votes in the national poll. The women's team is unranked and currently fighting its way back into the regional (and hopefully national) rankings.

PACWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS: Biola has the opportunity to host the 2019 PacWest Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Eagles will host the meet at Ted Craig Regional Park, using the same men's course as the Biola Invitational. The women's course will be set up a bit different, since they will run a 6k and the Biola Invitational is a 5k course. Azusa Pacific is co-hosting the event.
