Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Two Down, Two To Go

Eagles improve to 2-0 in their trip to NorCal with win at ART U.

OAKLAND, Calif. --- It could be easy to become distracted when a facility issue causes your road trip plans to completely shift less than 24 hours before gametime. But Biola Men's Basketball handled it with poise traveled across the bay to Oakland and took care of business on Monday night.

The Eagles led for all but about four-and-a-half minutes in this one, overcoming a slow start and late lapse to earn a 62-54 win and get its first ever PacWest victory over Academy of Art.

It surely didn't go exactly as Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist drew it up, with the Eagles getting outrebounded, making just above 50 percent of their free throws and accumulating almost 20 turnovers. However, it was good enough - thanks to a nearly-perfect 17-point second half from senior Trevor Treinen.

After the Eagles saw their six-point halftime lead evaporate within the first eight minutes of the second half, Treinen found a whole new level and owned the rest of the game. From 11:03 to 1:23 in the final frame he scored 13 points for BU to take a one-point game (38-37) and turn it into a comfortable 60-52 advantage to set up the home stretch. He didn't miss any shots from the field and only missed one free throw during that stretch.

Treinen's second-half dominance came after a great all-around team effort in the first half set the Eagles up for success over the final 20 minutes. Biola went into break with a 29-23 lead, with five players scoring five or more points. Treinen was joined by Alex Talma, Steve Herve, Levi Auble and Michael Bagatourian in handling all the scoring for BU in half number one.

Herve had an impressive offensive stretch early where he scored points 12-18 for Biola on back-to-back-to-back layups that helped BU keep pace with every bucket scored by ART U on the other end.

Biola shot the ball well all night long, ending with a field goal percentage greater than 50 (.500) for just the third time this season. Treinen was 9-for-13 to pace that effort. He also accounted for one of Biola's two three-point makes. He'd end the game with 23 points, topping 20 for the first time this season and 12th time of his career.

Bagatourian (13) was the only other player to hit double-digits, and he was also the only other one to hit a three-pointer. His three was huge as it capped an eight-point run in the middle of the second half that brought the game from 39-39 to 47-39 Biola.

Talma finished one point shy of what would've been his second-straight double-double, ending with nine points and 10 rebounds.

The win pushes Biola to 8-6 (4-4 PacWest) and sets the team up well for its Thursday night matchup at Dominican (6-8, 2-6). Biola is 13-1 all-time against the Penguins.
