Park And Kirton Make Big Splash On Senior Night

Biola completes the best home schedule in program history with a 14-1 record.

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior night was just as it should have been and so much more for the No. 17 Biola Eagles. The visiting Bethesda Flames gave them a scare with 9-of-18 shooting from three in the first half, but the Eagles were able to rebound in the second half to win 94-87 in their final game at home.

The Eagles are now 23-6 and have the most wins at home of any team in program history with 14. The 2010-11 team currently holds the record for most wins in one season with 25.

It looked to be a high scoring contest from opening moments as the two teams combined for 43 points in the first quarter. Bethesda went 5-of-10 from three and was led by Estela Gutierrez' 3-for-3 mark from deep. Biola countered with an emphasis on attacking the paint and feeding Joclyn Kirton, who scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting in the first 10 minutes.

In the second quarter it seemed Bethesda would not, could not miss while the visitors amassed a 14-point lead at the half. The Flames shot 12-of-20 from the field in the second quarter and scored 28 points in that ten minute span.

In the meantime, the 12 points Biola scored in the period put it in a hole that it would absolutely change out of with a vengeance in the second half.

The Eagles shot a ridiculous .714 on 28 shot attempts in the second half, scoring 27 and 32 points in the third and fourth quarters. Annie Park led the outburst by shooting 8-of-9 from beyond the arc for 25 second half points.

DeMoria White also turned the switch in the final 20 minutes with 17 points, six assists and six made free throws.

With only seven players in uniform, Bethesda started to fatigue in the second half and went 15-for-40 from the field for 38 points. The Eagles did an excellent job of not giving the Flames any free points as the Flames only took four shot attempts from the charity stripe all game (the Eagles made 13 free throws in the win).

But since the Flames kept pushing, Biola kept shooting itself into rarified air for offensive output. That was particularly the case for Park, who established a new program record for made three-pointers in one game with 11. She tied the previous record of nine earlier in the season in a 89-62 win over Embry Riddle (AZ) and was 12-of-19 overall in this contest for a game-high 36 points

The 11 threes also gives the senior guard a total of 98 made three-point baskets this season, which catapults her over Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) guard Julia Rendon for the most made threes among shooters in the NAIA. Rendon ended her regular season on Saturday with 97 made three-pointers.

Senior forward Joclyn Kirton had 23 points and 12 rebounds in the win for her 11th double-double of the season while DeMoria White collected 22 points of her own.

Biola will return to action next Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament.
