No. 21 Eagles Sizzle From Three In Win Over Firestorm

Biola extends its home winning streak to ten games.

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- If there was ever a game that encapsulated the identity of this season's No. 21 Biola Women's Basketball team, this 83-64 win over Arizona Christian would be the one. The Eagles won their tenth straight with at home, limited the Firestorm to .250 percent shooting in the first half and buried 13 total three-pointers to improve to 16-5 and 7-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The 19 point margin of victory also signifies the Eagles' ninth home win by 14 points or more.

"I'm really excited about how the team bounced back from Tuesday's loss and I think it's another indication of the godly character and leadership present on this team," said Head Coach Alan Nakamura. "Arizona Christian is really talented and they showed that with their four double-digit scorers tonight."

Biola asserted its will on the pace of play from the opening tip, allowing just eight points to ACU in the first quarter and taking an 11 point lead. The Eagles sank five three pointers in the first ten minutes alone and were led by senior guard Annie Park, who was a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc in that span.

The Eagles' field goal percentage started to cool off in the second quarter, but DeMoria White and Tatum Brimley started Biola's momentum at the charity stripe by knocking down eight of their ten combined attempts. Their efforts allowed the Eagles to expand their lead to 14 points at halftime and contributed to Biola's excellent 18-of-20 mark at the line over the course of the game.

After scoring 21 points in the first half, Arizona Christian began to turn in on in the third quarter by scoring 18 points. The Firestorm were led by Courtney Christmas and Jada Willingham, who both scored seven in the period and finished with 15 points or more.

Christmas was the leading scorer on her team with 23.

However, that did not deter Biola in the slightest. Park kept her hot hand over the final twenty minutes while Joclyn Kirton began to find her way to the hoop for more efficient shots. Kirton shot 5-of-7 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line in the second half for 13 points; she had 15 points total.

Park would make five more three-pointers in the second half to give her 27 points and a tie for the program record for three-pointers made in a single game. She reached that marked on Nov. 23 against Embry Riddle (AZ).

"Annie works as hard as anyone on her game and it showed in the way she came through for her team today," said Nakamura.

Never let out of big wins for Biola, reigning GSAC Player of the Week DeMoria White also put her stamp on the game with 21 points and a 6-for-6 mark at the line. White has now reached 20 points in four of the last five games.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday for another home game. The Eagles welcome No. 3 Westmont to Chase Gym at 5:30 p.m.
