First Half Blitz Beats Arizona Christian

Four Eagles score in double figures in the impressive victory.

Tatum Brimley had a very good night in Biola 79-47 win over Arizona Christian.
Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. --- The newly recognized No. 21 Biola Eagles settled quite nicely into life as a ranked team on Tuesday against Arizona Christian, scoring at least 21 points in each of the first three quarters on the way to a 79-47 victory over the Firestorm. With the win, the 14-4 Eagles climb to 5-1 in Golden State Athletic Conference play and take a two game lead over fourth place ACU in the standings.

"I think we play really well as a team tonight to knock down shots our offense created and having Joclyn and Sara hold down the fort inside with rebounds and their blocking presence was huge," said DeMoria White. "Arizona Christian has played really well against ranked teams this year, so we kept playing because we never doubted their ability to come back."

The Eagles played with a purpose from tip-off, riding the momentum created by Sara Dougan's return to the lineup and the announcement of their No. 21 ranking earlier Tuesday afternoon. The trio of Tatum Brimley, Joclyn Kirton and DeMoria White came out with a vengeance, scoring all of Biola 22 first quarter points to give the Eagles a 12 point lead.

The lead more than doubled by halftime after Biola continued to pound the ball down low and started to force turnovers in the second quarter (six). Forwards Mikayla Greens and Kirton combined for 18 first half points in the paint, while Eagle guards sank four three-pointers to create a 20 point lead just 18 minutes into the game.

The Eagles held a 26 point lead at the break and held a lead of 30 or more for the majority of the second half.

"What really worked for us tonight was our ball movement in the halfcourt and playing well in transition, said senior guard Annie Park after her 11 point performance. "I also thought Tatum did a great job of facilitating the offense."

While the Eagles offense was clicking, a mix of Biola's hustle to close on FIrestorm shooters and a stretch of bad luck held the Firestorm to .212 percent on 7-of-33 shooting in the first half.

Things would eventually straighten out for the home team in the second half as it continued to rack up offensive rebounds (17 total) and second chance points (21 total). The Firestorm would outscore Biola in the fourth quarter and forward Courtney Christmas tied for the game-high point total with 22. But the Eagles would already have four players with 10 points or more by the start of the fourth quarter to run away with it.

In her return to her home state of Arizona, Brimley had another stat-stuffed final line of 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists. While White and Kirton led the scoring front with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Kirton would also finish with 10 rebounds to earn her second consecutive double-double.

Biola carries a three game winning streak in GSAC back to Chase Gymnasium where it is undefeated in its last eight home games. The Eagles will matchup against Menlo College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
