Eagles Outshoot Royals From Distance in 74-53 Win

Eagles extend win streak at home to eight.

Mikayla Greens was all hustle on Tuesday, collecting nine points and seven rebounds in Biola's 74-53 win
Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The friendly confines of Chase Gym were exactly what the Eagles needed to reignite some momentum in Golden State Athletic Conference play. On the heels of its first conference loss at Westmont, Biola won its eighth straight game at home on Tuesday and posted its fifth home win of 20 points or more with a 74-53 victory over Hope International.

"We can into this game with a lot of respect for Hope International because the players are well-coached and they execute their game plan well," said Assistant Coach Will Allen. "This game was very close for three quarters and the Royal's execution for long stretches of the game demanded we play our best."

Three point shooting was the key to the Eagles margin of victory, as Biola's 14 field goals from distance was too much for the opponents to overcome with just two three pointers of their own. The Eagles also posted six threes in comparison to Hope International's one in the final quarter.

Annie Park led Biola with five threes and 19 points, while Tatum Brimley made a great showing for the third conference game in a row: 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

The Eagles marked the first half by consistently contesting shots on defense and distributing the basketball to open players when they were at the other end of the floor. The Royals two leading scorers, forwards Jazzmyn Oliver and Emily Terwilliger were held to five and four points, respectively on 4-of-10 shooting.

Conversely, four Biola players finished the first half with five points or more with Joclyn Kirton following close behind at four points and seven rebounds. Kirton, Mikayla Greens and Jessica Shill also posted three offensive rebounds each by halftime.

Biola would continue to pound the glass after the break, grabbing 12 more boards than the Royals by the final whistle. But the Eagles also incorporated a press more frequently in the second half, forcing more passes from the Royals that turned into turnovers.

Biola intercepted eight steals and forced twelve turnovers in the second half. The Eagles also raised their season steal total to 201 with the twelve total steals they had on Tuesday.

But that defensive effort would not stop the Royals completely in their tracks. The visiting team scored 34 of its 53 points in the last two periods and forwards Oliver and Terwilliger both pushed their point totals into double digits. In fact, Oliver finished with the best stat line of the night at 17 points and 15 rebounds for her second double-double of the year.

However, the Royals three double-digits scorers could not chase down the Eagles in the fourth quarter because of Biola's 24 in that period. Consequently, Hope International drops to 0-4 in GSAC play.

The 12-4 Eagles will look to improve to 4-1 in GSAC on the road at San Diego Christian this Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
